Bonfire is a resource for writers of poetry and prose. Just wanting to write is not enough. Each of us who has been so inspired, is ultimately faced with a number of challenges:

     Am I doing it right?
Where can I get the help I need?
     How can I get published?

Those and many other questions have come to our minds. Each of the editors of these pages has come to realise the importance of the help we have received from a variety of resources. Our fire has been kept going by that fuel. We want to give something back to the writing community by sharing what we have learned and hope that there are those among our readers who will also want to do so. Please feel free to add your resources to this Bonfire.

What is Bonfire?

Perhaps it is easier to define in terms of what it is NOT. It is not just a poetry or short story e-zine, though you will find some fine examples of each on these pages. It is not another long list of out of date links, but we would be remiss if we didn't share some of the connections we feel are important. It is not a vanity press, a catalog, a library or a chat venue.

Bonfire is a resource: a supply or source of aid or support; something resorted to in time of need. As writers of poetry and prose, the editors and contributors of Bonfire know what they have been looking for while they have learned, and continue to learn the craft of writing. Based on this knowledge, it is our pledge to provide information and examples which can be used by writers of many levels of experience. If you need it, and we can find it, we will try to provide it.

Funding for this site is non-existent. The site as it currently exists is cost free. All dues are karmic in nature and may be paid in contributions of time. If you feel you have benefited from something you found here, or even somewhere else, now is your chance to give a little something back. You can help out by reviewing a book, writing an article, pointing us to excellent links (or letting us know if any of ours are dead) or volunteering as a mentor (or something you can do that we haven't thought of yet).

The editors reside in Scotland, so some of the resources we share will be based in the UK, though many of our contributors live in the US and other countries. The web does a lot to make those distances seem slight.

We are regretfully no longer accepting submissions but always glad to hear from you.

Thanks!
the Editors
