WALKING ON A MOVING TRAIN(page two)

WORST-CASE SCENARIO
Carrie Berry

The title for this issue was inspired by an item from the Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook calendar submitted by GSG contributor, Matthew King. Walking on a moving train may not be a skill any of us will use in our lifetimes, but it is symbolic of the difficult things each of us is called upon to do and the unusual ways some have of coping in the face of adversity.

In its infancy GSG (then still known as the Novellas County Gazette) was published bi-weekly on the message boards of a popular writers' workshop. The second issue was posted on the evening of September 10, 2001. We were quite proud of it, though it kind of got lost in the shuffle of events that unfolded over the next few days. It has now been three years and we are still remembering those events, though perhaps in a different way, as we continue to learn how to navigate that train moving underfoot.

The first story in this issue is a non-fiction eyewitness account of the events of 9/11. The rest of the pages are packed with compelling treatments of survival on many levels, including our first serial flash trilogy, complete within these covers.

And for your enlightenment our poet guide, Randall Brown, talks about realization, columnist Jonathan Redhorse shares hard evidence that he can cook and write at the same time and guest book reviewer, Edmund R. Schubert, talks about Orson Scott Card's CHARACTERS & VIEWPOINT.

You may notice there are more contributions on the front page. We have decided that along with the change to publishing every other month, we would give you more content per issue. The idea is to help hold you over until the next one is out, though our regulars tell us once they start reading GSG they just can't put it down, especially the print version, sized perfectly for rolling up and sticking in your pocket or bag.

We hope you will enjoy the read so much you will want to become a regular, too. The best way to make sure you never miss an issue of Gator Springs Gazette is with our new subscription plan, for which you will find a link on the front page.

Now, get to that reading!
